Young Men and Woman Arrested in Indonesia for Being Punk

Article taken from BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16176410
indonesia-punks.jpg
Dozens of young men and women have been detained for being "punk" and disturbing the peace in Aceh, Indonesia's most devoutly Muslim province. They are being held in a remedial school, where they are undergoing "re-education".

Rights groups have expressed concern after photographs emerged of the young men having their mohawks and funky hairstyles shaved off by Aceh's police.

They look sullen and frightened as they are forced into a communal bath.

...
The 64 punks, many of whom are from as far away as Bali or Jakarta, were picked up on Saturday night during a local [Charity] concert [for orphans].

...
Mr Leo stressed that no-one had been charged with any crime, and there were no plans to do so.

They have now been taken to a remedial school in the Seulawah Hills, about 60km (37 miles) away from the provincial capital Banda Aceh.

"They will undergo a re-education so their morals will match those of other Acehnese people," says Mr Leo.

But activists say the manner in which the young people have been treated is humiliating and a violation of human rights.

Aceh Human Rights Coalition chief Evi Narti Zain says the police should not have taken such harsh steps, accusing them of treating children like criminals.

"They are just children, teenagers, expressing themselves," she says.

"Of course there are Acehnese people who complained about them - but regardless of that, this case shouldn't have been handled like this. They were doused with cold water, and their heads were shaved - this is a human rights violation. Their dignity was abused."

And they are still being held!

A Letter From Your Friends at H.I.D.S.!

At the moment we are having some problems with "Police Not Welcome" stickers. We have a shit load of emails of people who want free "Police Not Welcome" stickers. The problem is that we are very limited and unfortunately we have run out of postage stamps. We will be getting more stickers and stamps some time this week or early next week. If we lag on you we are really sorry but we didn't expect for this many people to want stickers. We will also be lagging it extra on people from outside of the U.S. While you wait, go download our "Gone Postal Vol.1" FREE downloadable compilation (you can find the download on the right side column) So, be patient, go "LIKE" our facebook page, and once again we are very sorry for the inconvenience. We will get to all the emails real soon.

The Return of FREE "Police Not Welcome" Stickers!(Offer No Longer Available)

That's right! Many people have been emailing us for free stickers but we have been letting those people know that we no longer have any. But yeah, we just ordered some and are expecting the shipment to get here sometime early next week. If you emailed us already and we told you we would get to you soon then it's all good. We will send it your way as soon as possible. Once again, the point of these free stickers is to help spread a message that police are not what you think they are. They protect only the rich and they tell the rest what to do and how to do it. If you want free stickers email us your mailing address to heavyindastreets@gmail.com, help spread the word, and go "Like" our facebook page HERE.

We would like to take a second to thank the good people at Crimethinc.com for supplying us with the stickers.

Gone Postal Vol.1 (FREE DOWNLOADABLE COMPILATION)

heavyindastreets.com GONE POSTAL artcover
We been busy as fuck and neglecting the shit out of Heavy In Da Streets. Fortunately we were able to put this compilation together with the help of our close friend Ernie Sosa of No Cops For Miles. The compilation is entitled "Gone Postal" which is slang for becoming extremely and uncontrollably angry, often to the point of violence. It consists of 14 tracks from genres such as folk-punk, ska-punk, and hip hop. The idea of this free downloadable compilation is to show our anger at the shitty mainstream music industry and celebrating the D.I.Y.(Do it Yourself) culture. The Compilation consists of No Cops For Miles, the Kid Macias, Status the Shokwave, Screw You and the Four Chords, Jesus Buys Heroin, Homosexual Patriot, Zkapatistas, and Hello Apathy. We would like to thank all the bands and people who helped contribute to the compilation. As far as the future of H.I.D.S. goes, who knows and who gives a shit. This might be our last major project or it might not. There could be a Vol.2 to this compilation but that all depends on the reception we get from Vol.1. Anyways, download Vol.1, share it with your friends and enjoy. All music should be free so here is the link to the free download http://www.mediafire.com/?xlndtafam6sru1e

Happy Native American Genocide Day!

Just wanted to make a quick post to let people know that H.I.D.S. does not celebrate Thanksgiving. Alot of people seem to forget or are simply not well educated on the subject of what really happened. We are celebrating the crooks who came to America to steal and rape the land from the Native Americans. We Support the Native Americans in their struggle. Our message is not to tell people not to celebrate thanksgiving, but to get you to think about what you are really celebrating. HAPPY NATIVE AMERICAN GENOCIDE DAY from your friends at H.I.D.S.!

(A) Beatnik Bum Zine!(Release) Interview + FREE DOWNLOAD!

Today is the release of the "(A) Beatnik Bum Zine". We have got our hands on an official advance copy of the zine. We enjoyed it & recommend everybody to go download it. The zine is a (DIY [Do It Yourself] magazine) capturing the mind of an existential lover in regards to political/social/musical tastes of the beatnik bum himself. This zine includes art, poetry, lyrics and cartoons and anything else that will make this sentence redundant. DOWNLOAD THE "(A) BEATNIK BUM ZINE" FREE PDF HERE!

We were able to get an interview with the author of the zine, The Beatnik Bum himself. Check it out.

HIDS: Who and what is (A) Beatnik Bum Zine?

Beatnik Bum: A Beatnik Bum Zine is the writings and sketches of the Beatnik Bum himself. I, The Bum, have tried to create this depiction of life through the eyes of a youth living and feeling the waves of the energy for the first time.

HIDS: Are you new to the Zine scene?

Beatnik Bum:I've been making zines in the past, have taught workshops on zine making and edited/published many. I say I've been around 3 years.

HIDS: What inspired you to make this zine?

Beatnik Bum: Looking through old zines, I regained that joy for zine making. My past is what made me revisit the zine scene.

HIDS: Is there a targeted audience for this zine or is it for everybody?

Beatnik Bum: This zine is for anyone who is interested in the mind of an anti social who struggles with identity and the lessons of the cruel world.

HIDS: How does this zine differ from any of your earlier work?

Beatnik Bum: This zine is more personal whereas others have focused on socio-politikill issues.

HIDS: After a person is done reading the zine, what is the message you want that person to get?

Beatnik Bum: I think I just want people to keep reading and see that there is always a war for your mind whether it is external (ie. Capitalism) or internal such as depression.

HIDS: How can people who are interested help out the cause?

Beatnik Bum:I haven't really thought of that. DIY man. Everyone can create their own media, their own world. Just start thinking in a positive way to change the world and we can all make this the world we wanna see.

HIDS: Shout outs?

Beatnik Bum: Shout out to Geronimo, Bernie, Jojo and my girlfriend Jasmin who have all been very supportive. Also I would like to thank David for helping with the scanning and Massive for helping with uploading pdfs. Much love to those I've left out.

DOWNLOAD "(A) BEATNIK BUM ZINE" FREE PDF HERE!

No Support for Occupy LA!

You might have wondered why we have posted nothing about Occupy LA. That is because we do not support it. One main reason we do not support it is because we refuse to support police. We can go on forever on why we do not support Occupy LA but the good people over at Underground Action LA have all ready written some stuff up and we are backing that. Also, go check out UnpermittedLA which is a blog on critisisms of Occupy LA. Anyway, check out the list below put together by the good people at UALA.

1) We don’t want any government. We want autonomy and freedom for communities and individuals to meet their own needs.

We want a communal living style in which the people control the means of production.

2) Do you want corporations to be free from restriction and regulation? Because that’s the status of religion. They pay no taxes. They have special First Amendment protections. In a capitalist system, there will NEVER be a separation of corporations and state because the purpose of capitalism is to monopolize every resource and to govern as a corporation. The corporation is the state. No matter who governs, a state will always control the means of production. The means of production must be controlled by the masses.

3)There already is an unjust oppression through social stratifications so to say it will soon be too late is denying the current status quo.

4)Occupations such as OWSLA do not completely address the needs of the masses. Instead we must work to eradicate the capitalist system that exploits and not seek to reform it. This comes in the form of DIY (Do It Yourself) tactics and direct action.

5)As of right now, we are not ready for a revolution. The masses haven’t been informed and the knowledge has been kept in the grasp of a few circles of intellectuals. To say this is to further a vanguardist agenda and we belive that in organizing, ALL people must take part in this.

-If you let someone “give” you rights, they can easily take them from you.

-Reforming this system will only strengthen the capitalist agenda of exploitative imperialism.

-ALL the masses must liberate themselves. We cannot claim to lead them.

-We are not Americans. We are first and foremost HUMAN BEINGS.

“Leaders who do not act dialogically, but insist on imposing their decisions, do not organize the people-they manipulate them. They do not liberate, nor are they liberated:they oppress” – Paolo Freire

Our goal is not to create a division but merely to shine light on criticisms that might arise from this struggle. We do not claim to have all the answers, but as a collective this is how we feel.

-In solidarity

Hello everybody. We been real busy lately with all sorts of random shit so we haven't been posting much. Sketchy Characters!

Here is an article put together by the good folks at Underground Action Los Angeles We thought we would share this here on the blog to keep everybody on their toes for sketchy characters.
TO OCCUPY LA (Security Comm.) and fellow comrades
October 1st 2011

At approximately 2pm today an individual wearing a black hoodie with a red lace on the tip, baseball cap and black jeans approached a couple of our members. He is a white male around his early 20's with a strong jawline, short hair and slouches over as if hiding from someone or something.
As we were standing around, the said individual asked "Where's the action" hinting at a possible disruption of events. We responded with a simple "I don't know" which was followed by "Didn't you hear? The guy said we need to do action. Let's do some shit man!"
This individual came off as either very immature but also as a sketchy character to our group. As he asked us this, a female came from behind, took our picture (to which we opposed) and quickly ran off. At this point, the male insisted on "starting some shit" and we ignored him. He remained persistent as if he wanted us to help him disrupt.

We do NOT condone violence and mindless acts of destruction ESPECIALLY at a protest we have not organized ourselves.

This is a serious thing to us. We practice a high security culture within our group and we feel that if an individual goes out of his way to disrupt or even attempt to, this person is either:

A) An undercover officer
B) A paid disruptor
C) An outsider agitator

Luckily, we were able to take the individual's picture which will be up soon. We feel obligated to bring this up. There will be agitators and there will be undercover cops infiltrating to destroy all the progress the people have made. And we will not stand by while this goes on. Something must be done to hold these agitators accountable and to either remove them from actions or to keep a look out for them.
The cops cannot be trusted because this has happened time and time again. They have sent these agitators into our activist circles and they will not investigate who is disrupting protests. They are the disruptors. They work for the interests of the bourgeois.
This may sound like ranting but we are fed up with activists being negligent to this disease. What will OccupyLA do to address this issue?
